Southern Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion & Garlic – Low-Carb Comfort in a Skillet

Ingredients

  • 1 small head of cabbage, chopped
  • 4–6 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Cook the Bacon

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Once done, remove and set aside, leaving the flavorful drippings in the skillet.

2. Sauté the Onion

In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook until translucent and soft, about 4–5 minutes.

3. Add the Garlic

Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute, just until fragrant—don’t let it burn.

4. Add the Cabbage

Toss in the chopped cabbage and season generously with salt and pepper. Stir well so everything is coated in bacon fat and flavor.

5. Cook Until Tender

Let the cabbage cook down for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally. It should become soft and slightly caramelized.

6. Finish with Bacon

Add the crispy bacon back into the skillet, give it a good toss, and serve hot. Optional: garnish with chopped green onions for color and freshness.
